Your Guide to Cleaning a Vinyl Fence

Homeowners are always on the lookout for ways to keep their properties in shape without the elbow grease. That’s why so many homeowners opt for a vinyl fence.

Vinyl fences are clean, beautiful, and nearly maintenance-free. But don’t get too excited; vinyl fences still need a little maintenance. Continue reading to learn how you can clean and remove stains on vinyl fences.

Cleaning Stained White Vinyl Fences With Vinyl Cleaner

For Light Soil and Debris Removal

It’s inevitable; over time, your vinyl fence will get dirty. Luckily, the solution here is pretty straightforward. Just grab your garden hose, and give your fence a good rinse while you’re out watering plants or tackling yard work.

For Heavy Stain Removal

If your fence still looks dirty even after a rinse, you’ll need to grab a few household cleaning supplies. Fill a bucket with warm water, and add a few drops of mild dish soap. Grab a soft rag or sponge and scrub away those heavy stains. Once you’re done, let your fence air dry.

For Mold and Mildew Removal

Be careful with this. You don’t want to unintentionally spread mold and mildew across your vinyl fence. Add half a cup of white vinegar to your soapy water bucket and scrub until the mold and mildew are gone. Plus, the vinegar helps slow the return of mold and mildew.

How to Clean Vinyl Fences: Removing Stubborn Stains

Sometimes vinegar and the garden hose aren’t enough to remove stains. If you have stubborn stains that just won’t let go of your fence, consider the following remedies:

Scuff Marks

Scuff marks are an eyesore. After all, you don’t want scuffs to spoil your curb appeal. But guess what? The solution is sitting in your kitchen’s junk drawer. Just grab a pencil, and erase the marks until they’re gone.

Dirt

For stubborn dirt, try dipping a soft scrub brush into your soapy water mixture. Start by testing a small area on your fence to avoid scratching the vinyl. Remember to scrub slowly and gently until the dirt is removed.

Mold and Mildew

If mold and mildew make an appearance, you may need to shift gears. With a spray bottle, spray undiluted vinegar directly onto the molded surface. Let it stand for a few minutes, and rinse thoroughly with water.

Paint

If you recently painted and got a few splatters on your fence, you may need a heavier solution. Try using paint remover to remove tough paint stains. Keep in mind that paint remover may damage your vinyl fence. Test a small area before committing to the rest of your fence.
